Meetings: The Albany Chapter's monthly
informal meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month, October through
June. The meetings consist of a brief chapter business meeting followed by
an interesting program, usually with slides. Refreshments are also served.
The May meeting is replaced by the annual banquet held at a local restaurant.

meetings and accompanying programs, except the May banquet, are held at 7:30
p.m. at West Albany Firehouse (Station #1), 113 Sand Creek Road, Albany, New
York (directions below). The Chapter's Executive Committee meetings are
held at 7:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, September through June at

issues only. Upcoming informal meeting dates and program topics are listed

October 14, 2008 - Hike Your Own Hike: Reflections on the Northville-Placid Trail by Tom Wemett, a nature enthusiast who through-hiked the 133 mile-long gorgeous NP Trail in 18 days in the fall of 2005. Come hear and see about Tom's excellent adventure on this gem of a hike, and pick up some tips for your hike on the NP Trail. He's a great photographer, so expect to be dazzled. His article about his experience appeared in the May/June issue of Adirondac. Tom stays involved in NP Trail maintenance projects, hiking, helping others plan their sections or through hikes, and serves as Chair of the NP Trail subcommittee of ADK's Trails Committee.
November 11 - Winter Mountaineering presented by Carl Klinowski. If you would like to learn new winter hiking and camping skills, or expand your three season enjoyment of the outdoors into the fourth season, then the Club's Winter Mountaineering School may be for you. Carl is a Winter School Instructor, a Winter 46er, and former Albany ADK chapter chair and outing chair. He has a great slide show of winter in the Adirondacks with information about the Winter Mountaineering School. If you love hiking but don't appreciate the bugs, the heat and all the leaves blocking the views, this could open up a whole new experience for you.
December 9, 2008 - Hiking, Skiing and Enjoying Nature in Our Own Backyard Looking for outdoor places to hike and ski within an hour's drive? There are more than 900 beautiful acres open to the public in Albany, Schenectady and Montgomery counties thanks to the efforts of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy and the generosity of our community. MHLC's executive director, Jill Knapp, will introduce us to the organization which owns and manages lands of significant ecological or scenic value. In addition to telling us about recreational opportunities, she'll tell us about the flora you can expect to find on your wanderings. Jill has worked in land protection throughout her career including in Iowa and elsewhere in NYS.
